A 3.8L six-cylinder engine that generates 205 horsepower and 230 lb.-ft. of torque powered the '02 Bonnevilles SE and SLE, both trim models features automatic load leveling. The SSEi carries a supercharged version of the 3.8L six-cylinder engine, which generates 240 horsepower. It also has the Magnasteer variable-effort power rack-and-pinion steering. All three trims use a standard electronically-controlled four-speed automatic transmission.

When it comes to the interior, the Pontiac Bonneville's accommodating and spacious cabin featured convenience that include air conditioning, cruise control, power door locks with lockout protection and delayed locking feature, power windows, rear seat pass-through, tilt steering wheel and an AM/FM stereo with CD player and six speakers. There are also optional features for the upper end models such as leather upholstery, upgraded audio system, 12-way power driver's and passenger's seats, heated seats, and a four-spoke leather wrapped steering wheel with audio controls.

The elegant exterior of the '02 Bonneville includes enhancement features such as front fog lights, halogen clear lens headlights with optic reflector, rear deck lid spoiler and dual power outside sport mirrors. Also included were a 16" cast aluminum wheels and integrated body side moldings with chrome detailing available on the SE. On the other hand, the SLE and SSEi carries a ribbed, aggressive monotone body side applique and rocker moldings and a 17" cast aluminum wheels. Accessory such as a power glass sunroof is optional for all trims.

Like all Bonnevilles, the 2002 Bonneville came equipped with safety features such as a remote keyless entry system, illuminated entry, theft deterrent system, and ABS brakes. Features like side impact air bags, driver air bag, passenger air bag, child safety locks and child seat tethers and anchors were also included. The upper end model SSEi came equipped with an emergency road kit.
